Every day, we are confronted with alarming images and videos showing the devastating effects of climate change. Yet these distant disasters often pass by without leaving a lasting impression: It is not our home. It will not happen in our country.
This project uses artificial intelligence to break through that emotional distance and make the climate crisis tangible at home. Through an interactive tool, users upload an image of their house and enter their location. Based on this information, AI generates a possible future scenario of their home affected by severe climate damage. By confronting viewers with a destroyed version of their own familiar environment, the project invites them to reflect more urgently on the consequences of climate change.
Using artificial intelligence, this project turns the climate crisis into a personal and immediate experience. Users upload an image of their home and enter their location; based on local climate information and future projections, the tool transforms the image into a possible scenario of flooding, drought or destruction.
To create these visualisations, we trained Stable Diffusion with our own datasets for three disaster scenarios: flood, drought and general destruction. Users who prefer not to upload a personal image can instead choose from a selection of predefined house types. The following examples show how these homes are transformed under each scenario.
